SEO visibility score

Also called visibility score, search visibility, visibility index

What is an SEO visibility score?

An SEO visibility score is a single metric that summarises how visible a website is in search results for a set of keywords. Tools weight each ranking by the share of clicks that position typically earns, often also by search volume, and combine them into a percentage or index. Ranking first for every tracked keyword would give the maximum score.

A central gauge linked to a processing unit and six data input panels, representing an SEO visibility score.

There is no standard formula. Each tool builds its score from its own CTR curve, keyword set and weighting, so scores are only comparable within the same tool and the same keyword set. In a rank tracker, visibility is calculated over your tracked keywords; in a domain tool, over the tool’s whole keyword database.

Why SEO visibility score matters for SEO

Visibility turns hundreds of keyword positions into one trend line. That makes it easy to see the effect of a core update, a site migration or a content push, and to compare yourself with competitors over the same keywords. It is closely related to share of voice.

Because it weights by expected clicks, it rewards moves near the top and mostly ignores moves on page five, which is how traffic behaves too.

How to track SEO visibility

  1. Build a stable keyword set that represents your market, and leave it mostly unchanged so the score stays comparable over time.
  2. Add competitors to the same set so you can compare scores directly.
  3. Check the trend weekly and look into sharp moves: which keywords changed, and which pages.

SEO visibility score FAQ

What is a good visibility score?

It depends on the tool and the keyword set. Compare your score with competitors on the same keywords, and with your own past scores, rather than with a fixed number.

Why did my visibility drop but traffic didn’t?

Visibility only covers the keywords being measured. If you lost positions on tracked terms but gained on others, or the lost keywords brought little traffic, the two can diverge.
